WILLIAM B. UMSTEAD — RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA

William B. Umstead feels less like a destination and more like a passage. The trails bend without urgency, the water reappears in fragments, and the forest carries the marks of both use and recovery. I returned across different days and seasons, letting repetition shape what I noticed. This project follows those returns, paying attention to quiet shifts in light, texture, and movement rather than landmarks.
